Jatin Das

About

Born in the year 1941, Jatin is a renowned Indian painter, sculptor, muralist, and a poet. Counted amongst the most creative and innovative art explorer, his magnificent artworks immaculately portray dynamic human figures. Linear arrangement and breezy brushwork in his paintings adds piquancy and edge to his work. Jatin’s paintings beautifully divulge varied aspects of man-woman relationship.

Education & Work

Jatin Das was born in the year 1941 in Mayurbhanj, Orissa. He studied painting at the Sir JJ School of Art (1957-1962), Bombay to learn art and paintings. After completing his studies, he started participating in various art exhibitions with his creative artworks, both on national and international platform.  Jatin is a proud father of known Bollywood actress ‘Nandita Das and designer Siddhartha Das. He got married to Varsha Das, and later got divorced. He has been painting and exhibiting in both solo and group exhibitions from the last 50 years. Jatin has held more than 68 one-man shows, and has enthusiastically participated in international shows and artists camps. Also, he has done numerous murals and sculpture installations including a 67' x 7' large mural at the Parliament House entitled "Mohen jodaro to Mahatma Gandhi. A tirelessly innovative and prolific explorer uses oil, ink and watercolors. His exquisite artwork reflects man-woman relationships in diverse moments of crises, interactions, revelation, and emotional tension. His work divulges rhythmic incoherence of color-planes and rushing lines that further helped him immaculate depiction of different human forms.

Awards and Accolades

Jatin Das has been honored with various prestigious awards including: Utkala Awards by Bengal Governor, Kolkata (2006), Bharat Nirman Award (2007), Seminar Management Institution, Bhubaneswar (2007), and Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity Italian Government, Italian President Award, New Delhi. In the year 2012, Jatin was honored by third highest civilian “Padma Bhushan” award by Govt. of India.
