About

SatishGujralisagloballyhonouredartist, who has beenhighly acknowledged for exhibition of multi-talents, such as painting, graphics, sculpture, murals, architecture and interior designing.

He was born in 1925, Jhelum (which was before partition part of Punjab and now presently in Pakistan). Entrapped into silence for long during his early years of growing age resulted into hearing impairment, he used to sketch and read Urdu literature, and later in 1939 enrolled himself to the Mayo School of Art in Lahore.

Education & Work

In 1954, SatishGujral successful completed Palacio Nationale de Belles Artes, Mexico. Before that, in 1947, he did a diploma course in Fine Arts, Sir J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai. He went to Mayo School of Arts, Lahore, between 1939 to 1944. He ever won burmah shell scholarship to study art mumbai in 1944. He received Honorary Doctorate from VisvaBharti University, Santiniketan, in 2000. In 1996, he was conferred on Honorary Doctorate by Vishakapatnam University.

Gujral even served as atrainee of Mexican Masters Diego Reviera and David Alfaro Sequiros in the early fifties.

His work majorly reflects versatility and passion to cover almost all spheres that fall under the umbrella of Plastic Art, Graphics, Paintings, Sculpture Murals, Object Design and Architecture.

Awards and Accolades

He was honoured with Amity Lifetime Achievement Award for art by Amity School of Fine Arts in 2010. In 2004-2005, he was honoured atGolden Jubilee Celebration of National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA). Again in 2004, he was conferred with Lalit Kala RatnaPuraskar, Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. In 1998, SatishGujral was bestowed with Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India.  He was honouredby the Delhi Citizens’ Council as one of 25 most prominent citizens of India and Da Vinci Award for Life Time Achievement, Mexico in 1989.  He was given Order of the Crown by Belgium for Designing the Belgian Embassy in New Delhi. He was even honoured for good work by the Government of India and Government of Punjab in 1983 and 1974. Satish won National Award for his Sculpture titled ‘Construction’, Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi in 1974. Apart from this, he even bagged National Award for his Painting titled ‘The Condemned’, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 1957 and National Award for his Painting titled ‘Despair’, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 1956.
