Tapan Kar, born in 1954 in West Bengal, India, is a talented artist who has spent his life in the rural areas of Bengal. A proud parent and a graduate of the Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta (1975), he is known for his works inspired by the poet R.N. Tagore. Tapan Kar specializes in painting scenes from women's lives and nature, using tempera, oil on canvas, and watercolor on paper. He has held many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows across India, including major venues like the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata and the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. Tapan has also created notable public sculptures, such as "Swagata" and "Mother," and has been involved in various art exhibitions and installations throughout his career. In addition to his visual art, he is an author and editor, having written several books and essays. He continues to work from his studios in Calcutta and Kulgachia.
