What is an action painting

Often referred to as ‘Gestural Abstraction’, Action painting is named so as it is a part of ‘Abstract expressionism movement’ which is highly intuitive in nature. This painting style, in particular, involves dripping, splashing, spraying and pouring of colors generously or restrictively, as the artist likes. In fact, a true action painter is never aware of what he is making and what it will look like until the end.
